This page is dedicated to Team Fortress Classic. Below I will list some frequently used commands for both the console and message bar. I will also mention how to bind keys, which can be very useful. I will also touch on the use of variables in key binding and aliases.
Now for some more fun stuff. don't you love the message bar but hate how much time it consumes? Well, you can say a whole phrase with the press of a button. The basic template for this is bind "key" "command". you enter this into the console, which you can enter with the ~ key.  Alternatively, if you have many binds you can create a file to hold them all. To do this you must enter the SIERRA/Half-Life/tfc directory and create a .cfg file by entering notepad and saving it as name.cfg (in the tfc directory, of course) on the option all files. Then, in the tfc directory, you want to open the file named autoexec.cfg with notepad and add exec name.cfg at the very bottom, leaving a few returns after it. There you go, now you can start putting your binds in this file and the next time you play enter into the console and type exec autoexec.cfg and you should be set. Just make sure that there is no conflict in the key settings that you have for TFC, or else some might not work ;)
You can also use variables in your messages. The %a, %h, and %i variables change depending on what your current statistics are and what just happened. My favorite message is: %i is basically the last person that attacked you, you hit or saw, but I'm not sure exactally which it is. It could be more than one thing. Anyways, you probably already figured out what %h and %a do. Of course! They tell your current health and armor. There are also more complex binds called aliases, which I don't even know how to do, but, if you search on the internet you should be able to find some very useful ones. But I do have a little collection of my own I thought were somewhat useful. Feel free to use them at your leisure. |
